I went to Montpellier!

Hello there!

I’ve always loved Montpellier, I love it so much that I chose to study tourism and communication there for a couple of years. I had never been a city girl, I’ve always lived in the countryside, so studying in a big city like Montpellier was a little bit scary, but I adapted soon enough and absolutely loved it. A few weeks ago, some of my family members came to visit and we decided to go on a day out to Montpellier. Getting there is pretty easy and you have a lot of options, you can either drive there on the motorway, or you can take the train there, the train station is right in the centre and has recently been renovated and it looks absolutely amazing, kind of like an airport to be honest! So off we went in the morning and we had a hoot!

Upon our arrival, we walked around the big outdoor shopping centre called l’Odysseum. It’s a fantastic shopping centre as there are tons of amazing shops and restaurants, it’s surrounded by great activities such as ice skating, bowling, go karting, cinema, aquarium, laser shooting and much much more. After our little stroll through the shops, we took the tram to the centre and had a drink at one of the main cafés on La Place de la Comédie, as usual, the weather was beautiful and there was some great entertainment on the Place, we got to see two fantastic dancers create their own dance moves and they even told a few stories through dance.

These dancers were absolutely amazing, they were funny, talented and put a big smile on everyone’s face!

One of the definite must-do’s in Montpellier, is the tourist train. It’s a very sweet little train that takes you on a 40 minute trip around the city, it shows you all of the historical landmarks and takes you down tiny little streets where you can enjoy marvelling at the amazing shops that this city has to offer. So obviously, we hopped on the train as soon as we possibly could! We saw so many amazing things, so much so that I couldn’t stop taking photos! (I may have gotten a little over-excited and taken a photo of a lamp post…). Whilst on the train, you can put on the free headphones and listen to a tour guide explain the route and everything that you see, rest assured, there are over 8 different languages, so you will definitely be able to enjoy it to the fullest!

After our lovely train ride, we decided to go to one of my favourite shops in Montpellier – Lush! We were looking for a present for one of my family members as we were organising a surprise party for them. As you can imagine, we spent absolutely ages in there, smelling all of the different soaps, trying every single tester in the shop and just having a lot of fun while being surrounded by beautiful natural products. For those of you that don’t know what Lush is, it’s a very popular chain store that sells soaps and makeup and creams, everything is made with natural ingredients and is not tested on animals, which just makes it that much better. The men in our group didn’t really appreciate that though.. Whoops!

We decided to then go and have a drink at a lovely little café 2 minutes from the centre. After our drink, we headed back to the Odysseum and had a meal at one of my favourite restaurants. It’s called 3 Brasseurs  and has such amazing food. We had such a great evening there, the service was fantastic thanks to our english speaking waiter and it was overall, a very enjoyable meal.

The restaurant even gives you your own newspaper! (just kidding, it’s the menu!)

If you’re ever in Montpellier, be sure to get the most out of the experience by going on the little train and just having a general stroll through the city, there is so much to see so be sure to make a day out of it!
