Holidaying in the South of France is just as amazing as it sounds. The sunny days, sandy beaches and crystal clear swimming pools aren’t all myths, but there are some things that you need to be aware of before booking your holiday; just small things that you wouldn’t usually think of, so I’m here to help!
8 top tips for your South of France Villa holiday
It’s hot 24/7 in high season!
This is the South of France, during summer it can get very very hot, I’m talking about 35-40 degrees hot, even at night! Not all of our properties have fans but they can be hired from us beforehand if you need them. So whilst making your booking, check with us if there are fans in the house, because trust me, you’ll need them!
Request a mid-stay linen change for longer rentals
For a booking lasting about 2 weeks or more, a mid stay linen change might not be included, so you will either have to wash your linen yourself, or you can just send us an email and we will get it sorted for you!
Check what’s included
Some mod cons, such as aircon, phone lines, and Internet access, and sometimes also mobile signals aren’t always available at properties, so again, check with us before booking if you think that you will need any of them.
Remember your credit card for car rentals
This region has so many beautiful places to visit, so if you’re planning on discovering everything that the South of France has to offer, then you’ll most likely be needing a car. In order to rent one, a credit card is essential, no other form of payment is accepted, not even cash. You should also make sure that the car hire desk will be open when you arrive at the airport.
Saturdays will be busy in popular tourist areas
Saturdays are always busy, no matter where you are in the country. Everyone is rushing around trying to get to the beach, so there’s often loads of traffic. Setting off early sometimes doesn’t even make a difference, so be prepared to be stuck in some traffic for a while (still nothing compared to England, it’s ok, you’re trained for this.)
Arriving late? Just let us know
Late arrival at your holiday home (after 9pm for example) can be arranged, you just have to let us know beforehand!
Pack your speedos and swimming hats for public or shared pools
Communal swimming pools in France can be a bit strange sometimes as they often don’t allow baggy swimming shorts to be worn in the pool, only the tiny little speedos we all know and love (hate). This isn’t so common anymore, but it would be a good idea to bring some with you just in case, as they can be quite pricey if you need to buy them from a public swimming pool. Swimming caps are also required in most public pools.
What have we forgotten?
That’s just some of the basic things that you need to know but obviously there are a million other things that are useful too. If you have any questions you can head on over to the holiday villas website for information about the villas, information about our booking process, and to find out more the South France Holiday Villas team and the fabulous locations we cover. If you can’t find an answer to your question, send us an email or give us a call.
