Restaurant Review for Auberge de la Croisade, Cruzy, Herault, Languedoc-Rousillon, FRANCE by the owners of the beautiful villa with a pool just a two minute walk from the restaurant:
We have eaten there many times over the last few years and have always enjoyed it. There are a number of set menus in addition to the A La Carte section. The wine list is extensive and includes some very reasonably… priced good quality wines from the immediate area.
We have found service to be of a high standard, and Bruno, the co-owner / maitre d’ is a top quality act, very entertaining, and fluent in English and German, as well as French. Booking is advisable, especially in the high season, but once you have a table, there is no hurry to vacate it. Bruno enjoys customers who enjoy their food…and wine. The Auberge offers a very good value leisurely lunch menu, and the setting is top class, with the added bonus of a designated driver not being required.
Bruno and the co-owner / chef, Bruno (it seems Bruno is a popular name in the area) have been in business at the Auberge for over seventeen years, so they must be doing something right! The building was previously a dwelling for canal workers, and was actually lived in by “Les Rossignols” who owned our house until they fell victim to their own wine back in 1974, when it was contaminated by pesticide. Our house was originally built as a dwelling in the 1880’s but was used as a “cave” from the mid-1920’s until the sad demise of the Rossignols.
Too much information, perhaps, but we can vouch that the wine is now fine as well as plentiful.
