Sometimes, offering your services as a holiday rental agent can a joyous and uplifting experience, but sometimes, it can be hazardous and downright daunting!
As a business, we rent holiday villas in the south of France but there are other services we offer too – namely visiting our owners’ properties on a regular basis to ensure all is well… or not…
We were called to one of our Contract owners’ houses as the neighbours had reported there was water coming out from under the front door!
The Mairie (Mayor) had our number as the emergency contact so they called us and we hightailed it to the property to find the Mairie’s plumber and several neighbours outside.
One of the kind neighbours had brought a ladder with him and was, to our chagrin, teetering on it trying to get in through the shutter on the first floor when we arrived. He had somehow managed to place the ladder on the roof of the first floor so he could reach the shutters.
Looking on in horror, we watched as he managed to traverse his way onto the first floor balcony but the ladder slipped away, out of his reach. He was in no imminent danger but it was clear he was stuck and couldn’t get down.
Luckily, we had the keys to the property, so we managed to enter the house, and rescue the poor, stranded neighbour! We also let the plumber in to see to the cause of the flood of water.
By this time, of course, the local police had arrived too to see what all the fuss was about and everyone had a great time chin-wagging about the fun and games at the house of the “Anglais”.
Please visit us again next Tuesday for more funny tales of “Following in the Life of…”
Needless to say, it was a very stressful evening, but luckily we managed to enter the property before any real damage was done – to property or person!
