Cruzy – a perfect little village for your holiday getaway!

Cruzy is a beautiful little village (around 100 inhabitants) located in Herault, Languedoc-Roussillon between Narbonne and Beziers and about a 25 minute drive from the glorious Mediterranean Sea.  With a pharmacy, a bakers, a butchers, a tabac (bar and newsagents), two grocery shops and a splendid Cave Cooperative (where you can buy wine ‘en vrac’).

I spent a wonderful eight months living in Cruzy, surrounded by vineyards and little paths to take adventurous walks.  Just outside of Cruzy, about a one minute drive, there is a forest called Seriege where you can take small walks on a road through the pine trees or much longer ones on little tracks.  In the middle, there is a magnificent view where you can see the Pyrenees.

Cruzy is a village rich in history.  The magnificent church in the village centre was built in the 15th Century and really is quite breath-taking.  I spent many an afternoon walking around it and reading the signs posted.  Right next to it is a museum full of mediaeval antiquities – many of which were found in Cruzy itself.

Cruzy is a ten minute drive from the larger Capestang where you will find two large supermarkets for your grocery shopping and many little restaurants and bars that are well worth visiting.

Cruzy itself hosts two well-respected restaurants and is a very short drive from the UNESCO Canal du Midi.

Cruzy’s Cave Cooperative is mainly for businesses and local inhabitants but visitors can buy wine normally on Thursday afternoons although it’s best to check with the Marie as opening times can vary.  The Cave has a normal retail shop at Cebazan where you can purchase wine throughout the week.
