Restaurant review: La Tour Sarrasine.

La Tour Sarrasine is in Poilhes, which is an absolutely delightful little town. The main attraction of this restaurant is its stunning terrace with masses of beautiful window boxes, and its location in the gorgeous village of Poilhes directly opposite the Canal du Midi so you have a view of the boats passing by.
I’d been aware of this restaurant for years and often thought what a lovely place it would be to eat at, but somehow never made it there.  I finally went last week and wasn’t disappointed, although the weather wasn’t quite good enough for us to eat outside.  The interior is very comfortable and classy, tables beautifully set and the staff extremely helpful and friendly.  Our waiter was eager to try out his very good English on us and happily explained a couple of things on the menu and made recommendations.
You can choose from the menu or you can go for the option of having a starter and main course (18 euros) or a main course and a dessert (about the same) or all 3 courses for 25 euros.  I think it was also possible to have a starter and a dessert, which is unusual to see!
Our waiter recommended the Montgolfiere de Homard or lobster pie to the rest or us and 3 of our party had that and declared it absolutely delicious and worth the extra 8 euro supplement.  I had the cod with sweet and sour sauce which was served with mashed potato and a pretty arrangement of tiny vegetables.  We all had dessert and chose a different one each – there was a coffee tiramisu, profiteroles (huge!), a chocolate cake with oozy chocolate filling and a café gourmand which came with a coffee, small chocolate cake, ile flottante, strawberry juice type dessert and a crème caramel – beautiful!
So, great for food, service, ambiance and location – all highly recommended!
